For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)
A popular Christian contemporary song title of “Your Grace is Enough” was sung during worship this week. The lyrics rooted themselves in my spirit. Though I have sung it many times, the Lord used the words to minister to my hurting heart.
We all experienced those times when you just can’t trace the hand of God in your life. This has been my experience during the last couple of weeks. Multiple friends have suffered the unexpected sudden losses of precious family members. Seven in all, an eighteen year old daughter, a beloved Father, a husband, a brother, a cousin and most recently an adult brother and sister.
Seven lives, seven souls, seven deep holes in my friend’s hearts. During seasons when you can’t trace the hand of God in your life, I am convinced you have to trust His heart.
As I write this devotion I am at summer camp in Lynchburg Va. The focal scripture for the week is Jeremiah 29:11, a familiar yet comforting verse. The Lord is assuring Christians that his thoughts towards us are of peace, not evil. His thoughts give an expected end another way to state this is to give you hope and a future.
When I don’t understand why something is happening it gives me the opportunity to press into the character of God. The lyrics of the song say: Remember your people, remember your children, remember your promise Oh God! Your grace is enough, your grace is enough, your grace is enough for me.
I learned early on in my Christian walk that when the Lord remembers something, it means he acts. Jeremiah 29:11 is full of hope. Though my heart is hurting for my Christian brothers and sisters, I can pray with confidence, that God hears the cry of my heart. I can encourage others with the word of the Lord, he has a hope and a future for them.
His grace is enough! Are you in a season of loss? Pour it out to the Lord, his grace is enough!
Father God, thank you for your unlimited grace. I ask you to send your Holy Spirit to comfort all who are broken hearted this day. Thank you that your thoughts towards me are peace, that you provide my hope and my future. In Jesus name. Amen.
