God is bigger than fear

For as long as I can remember, I have avoided the news like the plague. At 4:00 on days where I’m free, I love watching Ellen Degeneres. She brings so much joy and laughter. But as soon as the hour ends and the 5:00 news starts – click, off goes the TV or the channel changes. I understand that some awareness of what is happening around me is good, but constantly bombarding myself with all the bad in the world only brings me sadness and fear.

“This little light of mine.
I’m gonna let it shine…”

It is easy to get caught up in singing those familiar words and doing the fun motions, but not really applying the simple truth of this song to my life. I am called to be a light. I am to illuminate God’s love to a dark and fallen world. But yet I sit in my own little corner hiding that Light “under a bushel”.

The Flame

A couple weeks before we moved back to Michigan from Florida, we finally remembered to go outside and watch a space shuttle launch. We had a group of friends over that evening for a farewell party at our home, and midway through the evening, we piled out onto our front lawn to watch the launch We lived just outside Tampa, about 130 miles from the launch pad.
