“Hello?…Hello?…”

I didn’t recognize the local number on my phone, and while I heard voices in the background, no one responded. I nearly hung up, but then I heard a sweet voice I would recognize in a choir of thousands.

“Mama? You forgot to put my lunch in my backpack.” My first grader was calling from her classroom. The voice in the background had been her teacher prompting her to start talking.
