Over tea with a friend, I mentioned taking a hot dish from the oven using the too-thin oven mitt from my kitchen drawer. She asked, “Why do we keep those things anyway?” Firstly, I found comfort in the word we. After all, it wasn’t just me. Secondly, and most importantly, what a great question! Why do we keep those things in our lives that just don’t serve their intended purposes?
I’m reminded of Jesus and the fig tree incident.
